Yes, we actually do run our tours all year long and some of our very best bike rides are in the winter! It’s pretty easy to figure out what to wear in the summer but what about in January? I mean it’s always warm and sunny in Vegas right?
Actually, because of our elevation it can get quite cool and a rule of thumb is to plan on the temperature in Red Rock Canyon to be about 10 degrees F cooler than the Las Vegas strip. Let’s also take into account the breeze while the bike is in motion. I personally like to bundle up at this time of year. When we get off the bikes at each of our stops the sun feels amazing and sometimes we even take our jackets off. If it’s overcast we usually stay zipped up. Mom was right though, LAYERS are where it’s at. The key with winter bike riding is wearing clothing that blocks the wind- that new down puffy jacket you got for Christmas is perfect here!
If you find yourself unprepared I have extra lined wind breakers and gloves you can borrow. They will be offered to you if I have even the least concerns you may get cold. Jeans, yoga pants, trackpants all work well for the lower half, after November we tend to put our shorts away for a couple months.
